About us

About us

A few words

At the Heart of many a countryside village can be found an inn, a place where locals and travellers go, to relax after a long day.

The Red Lion Hotel is a family run pub situated at the heart of Hardy’s beloved countryside; our aim is to provide an authentic west- country pub experience. Our doors are open throughout the year, regardless of season: winter brings warming log fires whilst the summer invites al fresco dining in our pretty pub garden. So, whether it’s delicious food, award winning ales, open fires, quiz nights or just a natter, you need look no further .

Close to the world renowned Jurassic coastline and surrounded by popular spots like Weymouth, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, and well visited attractions such as Corfe Castle, Monkey World and The Tank Museum; you’ll find the hotel the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area.

Kelly, Ashley and the Team hope you love The Red Lion as much as we do.

Opening times for drinks:

Local Area

Firstly if you forget any of those all important amenities such as your toothbrush, we like to point business in the direction of our wonderful village shop. They also stock all ranges of local produce and have a post office. You can find more info at www.winfrithvillagestores.co.uk

The local area is known for the great walking and hacking trails close by so why not consider booking our ‘glamping’ hut with its own log burner for a treat in the winter after your walk!

Dorchester

Dorchester lies on the banks of the River Frome, in the Frome Valley, just south of the Dorset Downs and north of the South Dorset Ridgeway, that separates the area from Weymouth, 8 miles (13 km) south.
Dorchester is noted as being home and inspiration to the author Thomas Hardy, whose novel The Mayor of Casterbridge was based on the town.

Weymouth

As the waves crash against the rocks along the dramatic coastline of the ‘Isle’ of Portland it’s easy to see why this forms part of the World Heritage Coast. Yet just across the bay, Weymouth is home to a safe, clean and sheltered family beach.
